Seminary Entrance Scholarships

Please be sure to have your application sent in before the deadline of the scholarships and bursaries. Some scholarships require a reference letter(s) from your pastor, teacher, professor, or community leader. If you are to include a reference letter, please include the following:

  1. How long your Referee has known you and in what capacity.
  2. A description of your character.
  3. Why your Referee thinks that you are qualified for the scholarship or bursary that you have applied for.

Please have your referee sent their letter in to info@prov.ca either by mail or through email.

Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship because the deadline (Monday, May 1, 2017) has passed.

Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship, $500 (2 available)

Providence will accept submissions for the Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship until the end of April 1, 2017. This scholarship is available to new students entering a Master of Arts in Counselling program.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must have a minimum of 2.5 Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) in undergraduate studies.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Master of Arts in Counselling degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient receive $500 awarded in the second semester.

Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship (AB)

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship (AB) because the deadline (Friday, June 23, 2017) has passed.

Master of Arts in Counselling Scholarship, $500 (4 available)

This scholarship is available to new students entering a Master of Arts in Counselling program (Alberta extension only).

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must have a minimum of 2.5 Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) in undergraduate studies.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Master of Arts in Counselling degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient receive $500 awarded in the second semester.

This application will be considered only after a formal application to Providence Theological Seminary has been received.

  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Master of Arts degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500 awarded in the second semester of their program.

Master of Divinity Scholarship

Master of Divinity Scholarship, $500 (4 available)

This one time entrance scholarship is available to new students entering a Master of Divinity program.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Master of Divinity program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

President's Academic Scholarship

Providence University College Alumni Scholarship

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Providence University College Alumni Scholarship because the deadline (Friday, June 23, 2017) has passed.

Providence University College Alumni Scholarship, $500 (2 available)

Providence University College degree graduates who are pursing full-time master’s level studies at Providence Theological Seminary are eligible for the Alumni Scholarship. The applicant must have a minimum of 2.5 AGPA in undergraduate studies.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA).
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500 awarded in the second semester of that year.

This application will be considered only after a formal application to Providence Theological Seminary has been received.

TESOL Scholarship

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for TESOL Scholarship because the deadline (Saturday, April 1, 2017) has passed.

TESOL Scholarship

This scholarship is available to new or returning full-time students entering an MA TESOL or MA TTESOL program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit an essay of 400 words outlining why they want to study TESOL or TTESOL at Providence, and what they plan to do in this field to make a difference in the world. Please comment on how this bursary will assist you in meeting your financial needs in attending Providence. A letter of reference/recommendation from a university professor, pastor or community leader is required with this application.

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain a minimum Accumulated Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program majoring in TESOL or TTESOL.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $2500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

This application will be considered only after a formal application to Providence Theological Seminary has been received.

The President's Scholarship

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The President's Scholarship because the deadline (Saturday, April 1, 2017) has passed.

The President's Scholarship (sponsored by the Ross and Dorothy Smith estate, $10,000 ($5,000 available in September; $5,000 available in January)

This one-time scholarship is available to one new student entering full-time studies in the University College OR Theological Seminary. The applicant must hold Canadian citizenship to be eligible for this award and submit a 1000 word essay of how their education at Providence is preparing them to grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service (Providence mission statement).

In order to receive the above scholarship, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable Grade Point Average of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 24 credit hours over the fall and winter semesters.
  • Applicant must hold Canadian citizenship.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a degree program.
  • Applicant must submit a 1000 word essay on how Providence will prepare them to follow Christ and grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service. As a general rule, our expectation is that students receiving The Ross and Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship should display the below attributes:
    • Academic Merit

      For incoming first-year students, academic achievement normally means that students rank at the top of their graduating class, we will only consider a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or greater for this scholarship.

    • Strength of Character

      Students who have overcome obstacles related to health, family, social, educational or economic disadvantages are encouraged to apply. Any circumstance that shows strength of character and potential for achievement should be stated in your essay.

    • Community Service

      The committee considers not simply your community service but, more importantly, the impact your service has had on a particular individual or group. The committee considers volunteerism, service learning, field-work or internships that show civic responsibility and engagement.

    • Leadership

      Students who demonstrate experience leading groups and providing direction to others including teaching, training, organizing, managing and carrying more responsibility on the part of a group or organization. Being held in high regard by one's peers for being a role model through actions and deeds; and making improvements and achieving successes with or on behalf of others.
