Returning Seminary Students Bursaries

Please be sure to have your application sent in before the deadline of the scholarships and bursaries. Some scholarships require a reference letter(s) from your pastor, teacher, professor, or community leader. If you are to include a reference letter, please include the following:

  1. How long your Referee has known you and in what capacity.
  2. A description of your character.
  3. Why your Referee thinks that you are qualified for the scholarship or bursary that you have applied for.

Please have your referee sent their letter in to info@prov.ca either by mail or through email.

Brethren in Christ Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Brethren in Christ Bursary because the deadline (Friday, April 1, 2016) has passed.

Brethren in Christ Bursary, up to 8,000 available per semester (1 available)

This bursary is available to returning students of Providence University College & Theological Seminary, coming from the Brethren in Christ Church in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana or South Africa. To apply for this bursary, applicants must submit an essay of 200 words outlining their interest in continued studies at Providence University College & Theological Seminary. Please comment on how this bursary will assist you in meeting your financial needs in attending Providence. A letter of reference/recommendation from a faculty member at Providence University College & Theological Seminary is required with this application.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be in good academic standing.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College or Seminary degree program.
  • This bursary available for up to a three year time period in order to complete the degree.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a University College degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive up to $8,000 per semester, depending on availability of funds in the bursary.

Kleefeld Christian Community International Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Kleefeld Christian Community International Bursary because the deadline (Friday, April 1, 2016) has passed.

Kleefeld Christian Community International Bursary, $1500 (1 available)

This one-time bursary is available to Providence Theological Seminary students who demonstrate financial need, and who intend to go into Christian ministry. Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how they intend to use their education for future Christian Ministry.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how they intend to use their education for future Christian Ministry.
  • Applicant must be an International student.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

Neufeld Family Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for Neufeld Family Bursary because the deadline (Friday, April 1, 2016) has passed.

Neufeld Family Bursary, $1000 (1 available)

This one time bursary is available to students at Providence enrolled in a degree program. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and show basic Christian character and aptitude for ministry. Preference will be given to an international student.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Providence University College or Providence Theological Seminary degree program.
  • Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must demonstrate basic Christian character and aptitude for ministry.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1000, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Allan Kliewer Memorial Bursary

Providence will accept submissions for The Allan Kliewer Memorial Bursary until the end of Friday, August 19, 2016.

The Allan Kliewer Memorial Bursary, $500 (1 available)

This bursary is available to students entering their second or third year of pastoral ministry training.

Bursary Requirements:

  • Awarded annually to a graduate student entering the second or third year of pastoral ministry training.
  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable academic level of 3.0
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

The recipient will receive a $500 bursary to be applied to the second semester of either the second or third year of studies. The bursary is not restricted to a one-time occurrence and may be applied for in subsequent years.

Application Procedure

The applicant must submit the following:

  • Letters of reference from a pastor and from a church
  • A letter stating how studying at Providence is preparing him/her for life in ministry

The Bergmann Pastoral Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Bergmann Pastoral Bursary.

The Bergmann Pastoral Bursary, $5000

This one-time bursary is available to second or third year students in the Master of Divinity program who have an above average academic standing. The recipient must demonstrate good potential for working in pastoral ministry, and must have the intention of serving in a pastorate. The recipient must also demonstrate the need for financial assistance. Letters of reference are required from both a professor and from a Church.

Bursary Requirements:

  • Awarded to a student entering the second or third year of full-time Master of Divinity studies.
  • Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable academic level of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Applicant must demonstrate good potential for the work of pastoral ministry.
  • Applicant's intention must be to serve a pastorate.

The recipient will receive a $2,500 bursary per semester towards Providence education. A second year student who receives this bursary may be awarded a similar amount in the third year of studies, upon demonstration of continuing need and satisfactory performance in academic and practical courses.

Application Procedure

The applicant must submit the following:

  • Letters of reference from a pastor and from a church.
  • A letter from the applicant stating how the M.Div program is preparing him/her for further pastoral ministry.

The Dave K. Schellenberg International Student Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Dave K. Schellenberg International Student Bursary because the deadline (Friday, April 1, 2016) has passed.

The Dave K. Schellenberg International Student Bursary, $375

This one-time bursary is available to new or current international students entering Seminary training. Applicant must be enrolled in a degree program. The recipient must show intention to return to his/her country and document how they will use their training at Providence to train leaders in their country.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be an international student.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $375, awarded in the second semester of that year.

This application will be considered only after a formal application to Providence Theological Seminary has been received.

The David Moravec Memorial Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The David Moravec Memorial Bursary because the deadline (Friday, April 1, 2016) has passed.

The David Moravec Memorial Bursary, $250 (1 available)

This one-time bursary is available to current students. Applicants are required to submit a letter of reference from a pastor. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence is making a difference in their life.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $250, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Disability Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Disability Bursary.

The Disability Bursary, $500 to $2000

This one-time bursary is available to students identified, by definition, as having a physical disability. The student(s) must demonstrate that the disability constitutes financial hardship, and that these allocated funds will make a difference in their ability to attend Providence.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, spring and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500 to $2000, awarded in the second semester of each year.

The Glenn Murphy Memorial Bursary

Providence will accept submissions for The Glenn Murphy Memorial Bursary until the end of Friday, August 19, 2016.

The Glenn Murphy Memorial Bursary, $300 (1 available)

This bursary is available to married students in their second or third year of Biblical Studies. The recipient must demonstrate good potential for Christian leadership.

Bursary Requirements:

  • Awarded annually to a married graduate student in their second or third year of Biblical Studies
  • Applicant must maintain an acceptable academic level of 3.0
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 12 credit hours per semester
  • Applicant must demonstrate good potential for Christian leadership

The recipient will receive a $300 bursary to be applied to the second semester of either the second or third year of studies. The bursary is not restricted to a one-time occurrence and may be applied for in subsequent years.

The Harold Dyck Memorial Bursary

The Harold Dyck Memorial Bursary, $1000 (1 available)

This one-time bursary is available to returning students. Applicants are required to submit a letter of reference from a pastor. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence is making a difference in their life and demonstrating financial need.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1,000 awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Helen Schellenberg Memorial Missions Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Helen Schellenberg Memorial Missions Bursary because the deadline (Tuesday, December 2, 2014) has passed.

The Helen Schellenberg Memorial Missions Bursary, $500

This one-time bursary is available to a returning student intending to go to the mission field. Applicants must demonstrate good potential for Christian leadership and are required to submit a letter of reference from a pastor. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence is preparing him/her for life in the mission field.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, spring and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $500, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Minnesota/North Dakota Pastor’s Bursary

Providence is accepting submissions for The Minnesota/North Dakota Pastor’s Bursary - there is no deadline.

The Minnesota/North Dakota Pastor’s Bursary, Max. of $2000

This bursary is available to current and future students from Minnesota or North Dakota who are currently employed as pastors or acting as laymen in the Church. The applicant must meet all bursary requirements. Applicants do not need to be studying full time but must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be a Minnesota or North Dakota resident.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive a maximum of $2000, awarded in the relevant semester of study.




The Peter and Esther Dyck Family Bursary

Providence is not currently accepting submissions for The Peter and Esther Dyck Family Bursary because the deadline (Friday, April 1, 2016) has passed.

The Peter and Esther Dyck Family Bursary, $1000 (Up to 5 available)

This one-time bursary is available annually to students attending Albright Church in Winnipeg as regular attendees or participants in the youth program. Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how studying at Providence will make a difference in their life.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicants must submit a 400 word essay on how studying at Providence will make a difference in their life.
  • Applicants must submit a letter of reference form a member of the Albright Church Pastoral staff.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $1000, awarded in the second semester of that year.

The Rhea Nordstrom-Friesen Memorial Bursary

This one-time bursary is available to future and current students who express interest in continuing their studies in the field of Church-related ministry. Preference will be given to residents of South Eastern Manitoba. Applicants are required to submit a letter of reference from a pastor. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay stating how studying at Providence will prepare them for life in a church related ministry.

In order to receive the above bursary, students must meet the following criteria/requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 credit hours over the fall, winter, and summer semesters.
  • Applicant must meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a Seminary degree program.

When the above criteria/requirements are met, the recipient will receive $700, awarded in the second semester of that year.

Providence will accept submissions for The Wesley & Edith Shunk Memorial Bursary until the end of Friday, August 19, 2016.

The Wesley & Edith Shunk Memorial Bursary, $1000 (1 available

This award is available to a current Providence Theological Seminary student who demonstrates financial need, and who intends to go into Christian ministry.

Award Requirements:

  • Applicants must submit a 250 word essay outlining how they intend to use their education for future Christian ministry
  • Applicant must be a current student in good standing
  • Applicant must be enrolled in no less than 18 (Seminary) credit hours over the three semester year
  • Applicant must be enrolled in Seminary degree program
  • Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance

The recipient will receive a $1,000 bursary to be applied to the second semester of their studies at Providence Theological Seminary.
