Providence Computer Services is aware that WI-FI service in
some areas of the residences is not sufficient to meet the growing demand for
bandwidth. To address this issue new state-of-the-art equipment has been
ordered to replace our current WI-FI access points in the residences and
apartments. While we wait for the new equipment to arrive we would like to
offer a free network cable to those residents who can plug-in. There is one
network jack in each room in Bergen, Eichhorst and most 4-plex units and
Kindred has two jacks in each room. Unfortunately Prov House and Seminary House
do not have network wiring installed.
Connecting a laptop to the network with a cable has two
benefits; the connection speed should be noticeably faster for those who
plug-in and those who plug-in are not contending for bandwidth on the WI-FI
access points leaving more bandwidth available for those who cannot plug-in.
To sign-out a network cable please see Sven in the computer
services department during his customer service hours between 2 pm and 4:30 pm
weekdays. Cables are available in 15 and 25 foot lengths.
