David H. Johnson, Ph.D.

David H. Johnson, President: July 1, 2013 - Present

Dr. David H. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (BS, Economics), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., Old Testament), and Trinity International University (Ph.D., Theological Studies).  Prior to pursuing doctoral studies he was pastor of Faribault Evangelical Free Church in Faribault, MN for seven years.  He came to Providence in 1990 to teach New Testament and Greek in the Seminary.  In 2000 he was appointed Professor of New Testament.  He became the Dean of the Seminary in 2002.  In 2007 he was appointed Provost and Executive Vice President for Providence.  In 2012-2013 he served as Interim President. 

Dr. Johnson has published a number of articles and many book reviews.  His main research and teaching areas are New Testament Introduction and the formation of the New Testament Canon, New Testament Theology, and Paul's Epistle to the Romans.  He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, the Institute of Biblical Research, and the Society of Biblical Literature.  He is ordained by the Evangelical Free Church. 

Dr. Johnson is married to Barb and they have three children and five grandchildren.  He enjoys reading, sports, gardening, travelling with Barb, and spending time with family.
