Providence University College Public Lecture Series
This series of seven free public lectures are designed to offer a free educational experience for the general public by Providence University College faculty.
The first lecture in the series, titled "Just Faith: The Christian Call and Response to Social Justice" will be given by Dennis Hiebert, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology.
Until recently, many conservative Christians have been so focused on matters of private morality and personal righteousness that they have paid little attention to issues of public morality and social justice. A review of both the Old and New Testaments reveals this to be a selective reading of scripture, and suggests that even salvation is contingent on pursuing social justice. Social systems and conditions need redemption as much as personal hearts and behaviours. What exactly is meant by social justice, and what are various motivations for and levels of practicing it?
