Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

“Rereading C. S. Lewis Fifty Years after His Death"
Michael Gilmour
, PhD, Associate Professor of English Literature

Part of the Providence University College Public Lecture Series 2014, a community service for the general public. Admission is free – no registration is required.

C. S. Lewis died on November 22, 1963, and the fiftieth anniversary of his passing offers a suitable occasion for rereading and reappraising his diverse work. Lewis the author is many things: wartime poet, scholar of Medieval and Renaissance literature, Christian apologist, author of children’s books, autobiographer, and theological fantasist. This lecture focuses on his 1945 novel That Hideous Strength, the third in his science fiction Ransom trilogy, and explores ways it is emblematic of the Lewisian ‘canon’ as a whole.
