Providence Teams Earn Trip to Volleyball & Soccer Nationals

The Providence College women’s volleyball and men’s soccer teams have both won their respective regional championship tournaments this weekend, earning a chance to compete for a national championship.
 
The women’s volleyball team earned their second straight North Central Region title by defeating Faith Baptist Bible College 3 sets to 1 (24-26; 25-13; 25-14; 25-15). On their way to the final, Providence defeated North Central University 3 sets to 0 (25-14; 25-22; 25-22) and Faith Baptist Bible College 3 sets to 1 (25-12; 25-17; 25-27; 25-14). Four Providence players earned All-Region awards as senior Jill Reimer was named to the 2nd all-region team, freshman Devon Guenther was named to the 1st all-region team, freshman Marianne Signer was named libero of the year, and sophomore Victoria Ryshytylo was named the Most Valuable Player.
 
The men’s soccer team has earned their 4th straight North Central Region title by defeating North Central University 5-0. Providence players named to the All-Region team were junior Yohanes Asrat and freshmen Mario Giesbrecht and Joel Janke. Senior Tory Walker was named as the Most Valuable Player.
 
Both teams will be looking to improve on last year’s results at Nationals as the women’s volleyball team finished 5th and the men’s soccer team finished 2nd. Both national championships will be held in Kissimmee, FL during the second week of November (see team schedules for specific dates and times of games).
