Friends of Mile Two share laughs, display generosity
Friends of Mile Two shared laughs, enjoyed dessert, displayed generosity, and braved icy roads on November 18 and 19—all in support of the Providence-based discipleship school.
Comedian Matt Falk provided the entertainment over the two evenings, styled “Smile 2night”, and supporters donated more than $12,000 to Mile Two, which, in only its second year of operation, is gaining considerable momentum in the region.
“We feel like Smile 2night helped launch Mile Two into a lot of new conversations in and around southern Manitoba, and we’re excited to see new relationships develop out of that,” remarked Jeff Banman, the school’s director. “I would like to say a huge ‘Thank-you!’ to everyone who came and gave generously.”
Winkler Bible Camp hosted the November 18 event and drew 235 people; another 130 made the trip to the Providence campus on the 19th despite icy roads and blowing snow. Falk performed at both, and attendees also sampled various desserts—that is, when they weren’t laughing.
“People were literally laughing until it hurt and Matt could not have done a better job entertaining us,” said Banman. “Many people came not knowing a lot about Mile Two and left really encouraged and excited to partner with us.”
Established in 2014, Mile Two Discipleship School is an immersive, eight-month program that emphasizes biblical study, practical application and service, intentional community, and radical obedience to Jesus Christ.
Supporters who weren’t able to attend the Smile 2night events can still make a donation on the school’s website.
Added Banman: “People were really excited to hear about Mile Two and what God is doing here.”
