Providence Aviation Partner Receives Safety Award
2009-11-20
Harv Penner(left) receives the David Charles Abramson Memorial Flight Instructor Safety Award in Quebec City.

Providence's partner for the aviation program, Harv's Air in Steinbach, received quite an honour at this year's annual convention of the Air Transportation Association of Canada. Harv Penner was named this year's recipient of the David Charles Abramson Memorial Flight Instructor Safety Award. The award was presented in Quebec City. Penner says this is very prestigious hardware and he considers it quite an honour to be named this year's recipient of the only award given to flight instructors in Canada. Penner says the award is given to a flight instructor who exemplifies a passion for aviation and a commitment towards students. This is the 7th year the award has been handed out. It honours the life of Abramson, who dreamed from a young age of flying and later became a flight instructor. As for Penner, his passion, too, started at a young age when he became interested in building model airplanes. Penner says that passion grew with every visit to the annual Airforce Day in Winnipeg. Fast forward a couple of decades and in 1973 Penner opened his flight school in Steinbach.
