Lions Tame Freemen
Men’s basketball falls to Trinity Bible College Lions twice in weekend match-ups
The Providence men’s basketball squad was hoping to stay at .500 for the season and steal at least one game from the hosting Trinity Bible College entering the weekend’s back-to-back series. However, the Freemen ended up heading home empty-handed Saturday night after losing 110-73 Friday night and 95-69 on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Chris Funk poured in 24 points to lead the Freemen in scoring Friday night. However, even Funk’s strong effort wasn’t able to combat 6’8 senior Mo Mahoney and his Lions squad as Trinity Bible College took the game handily with a 110-73 score.
The Freemen then came back Saturday afternoon looking for revenge against the Lions. This time Providence tried a different approach and spread out the scoring as the Funk brothers, Jesse and Chris, scored 16 apiece and senior Dave Holowaty added 13. But the Lions once again found the answer to the Freemen and took the game 95-69
Notes: The Freemen return to their first MCAC action of the New Year this weekend with an away game at Red River College on Friday night, and then their 2010 home opener Saturday afternoon against St. Boniface University.
