Providence hires Business professor with vast international experience
One of the first things Providence students will notice about Dr. Marcio Coelho is his hat—or, more accurately, hats, as they change from day to day.
“I am a hat-lover and keep a small collection at home,” says Coelho, the incoming Associate Professor of Business Administration at Providence. “Maybe I was born at the wrong time, but I think a hat should be part of our clothing.”
Students, staff, and faculty will also find Coelho to be an able teacher, thoughtful mentor, and genial colleague, and, he says, he’s already excited about becoming a part of the Providence community.
“When I first met teachers, staff, and students I felt so embraced by their friendliness and kindness,” he says. “That reinforced why community life is so highly valued at Providence. My hope is to experience it in all its aspects.”
Professionally, Coelho brings considerable international experience to an already thriving Business program.
He has a PhD in Communications and Marketing (Mackenzie Presbyterian University), an MBA in Marketing Administration (Mackenzie Presbyterian University), and undergraduate degrees in Journalism (Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas) and Theology (Southern Presbyterian University).
He has also spent 16 years teaching Organizational Theory, Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, Entrepreneurship, and Business Communications in his native Brazil and is currently completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Manitoba.
“Marcio is an experienced university professor and researcher with strong academic and industry backgrounds,” says Dr. Jeremy Funk, Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Providence. “As we expand and grow our Business program we are very excited to have attracted someone of Marcio’s academic calibre and international experience.”
Funk adds that Coelho is an effective and engaging instructor who encourages students to consider Christian perspectives.
Coelho will officially begin his work at Providence on July 1 and will be part of the faculty team helping to deliver a new Bachelor of Business Administration in the institution’s new Business-purposed space.
