Winless in Minneapolis
Lady Freemen fall to NCU and Faith in NCCAA action
The Lady Freemen travelled south of the border this past weekend to play the North Central University Rams and the Faith Eagles as they wrapped up their NCCAA regular season schedule. They started their trip by falling 72-51 to NCU and then faced the Eagles Saturday afternoon in what ended in a 61-48 loss.
The Freemen entered Friday night’s match-up against the NCU Rams hoping to take advantage of the momentum they gained from their huge come-from-behind win against the Red River Rebels less than a week before. However, the Freemen once again fell away from their game plan in the first half, and entered the break behind 46-19. The Freemen then found their game in the second, and started to make a push back. Freshman Sonia Radi collected a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and the Freemen went on to outscore the Rams 32-26 in the half. But the second half outburst was too little too late as Providence couldn’t make up the 27 point first half deficit and fell to NCU 72-51.
Providence then faced the Faith Eagles Saturday afternoon with plans of returning home with at least one win under their belt. The Freemen finally found their first half intensity and the two sides played tight basketball throughout. Senior Jill Reimer (6 pts, 5 rbds, 5 assts) led the early push, but the Freemen still found themselves trailing at the half. Radi then came out of the gates on fire again as she led Providence with 24 points. But in the end it wasn’t enough, and the Freemen weren’t able to catch their American counterparts, as the Eagles took the game 61-48.
Notes: Sophomore Amanda Franz led the team with a combined 21 rebounds in the two games…the Lady Freemen next play Wednesday when they host MCAC rivals CMU.
