Providence professor to address faith and science at Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church
2017-02-01
Providence professor Dr. Patrick Franklin will deliver a free, public lecture about faith and science on February 15 at Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church.

Franklin, who is Associate Professor of Theology and Ethics at Providence Theological Seminary, will address arguments put forward by some scientists that downplay the significance of religious questions and attempt to undermine religious truth claims.

“The sciences provide us with accurate and effective but not comprehensive knowledge about reality,” he writes in his lecture notes. “Science serves humanity best when it is practiced within a broader, holistic framework that includes other means of apprehending truth, including religious ones.”

The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. and run until 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will follow, and all are welcome. SEMC is located at 422 Main Street in Steinbach.

The author of Being Human, Being Church: The Significance of Theological Anthropology for Ecclesiology, Franklin is also Vice President of the Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation, which is co-sponsoring the lecture.

Additional information is available on the church’s website.
