Providence enrollment grows again for winter semester
More students are receiving a Providence education than at any time since 2009, according to the institution’s Registrar’s Report for the 2016-17 winter semester.
Additionally, winter credit hours are as robust as they’ve been since 2010, and overall net registrations are nearly 12 per cent higher than at this time last year. Meanwhile, the Otterburne, Manitoba campus continues to diversify, with 132 international students participating in Providence life.
Winter enrollment at Providence University College is trending upward, boosted by a record number of students pursuing TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificates. Degree programs in Aviation (Advanced), Biblical & Theological Studies, Business Administration (Co-op) and Social Science have also grown since the fall.
Overall, the University College is enjoying its highest enrollment since 2011.
The trends at Providence Theological Seminary are similarly encouraging. Registrations are at their highest for a winter semester in seven years, as are the credit hours being taken by graduate-level students. At present, 101 students are also taking courses through Distance Education.
The Master of Arts in Counselling continues to be a popular program and has grown since the fall. Other programs, including Christian Studies, Educational Ministries and Missiology, have also added more students since December.
In a challenging post-secondary environment, Providence continues to thrive. The ongoing IMPACT 2020 campaign—the largest fundraising initiative in institution history—is well on its way to achieving its goal of $12.5 million and has already facilitated the construction of classroom and student service spaces, the hiring of faculty and staff and the development of science programming.
Additionally, the Buller School of Business was launched in September as part of IMPACT 2020 and is offering Bachelor of Business Administration degrees.
