“Friend-raiser” Amy Brown excited to connect with alumni
2017-05-16

Amy Brown says she felt like she “won the lottery” when she was hired as Coordinator of Alumni Relations at Providence. A recent Providence graduate, she has already begun establishing and fostering relationships with fellow grads.

“My hope is to create community events that will reunite alumni and help them continue to maintain positive relationships with their former school,” she says. “As I like to tell people, I am a ‘friend-raiser’!”

Brown will be in regular contact with Providence alumni, telling their stories and sharing the institution’s latest news. She hopes to nurture an integrated community in which graduates can both play a role in the future of Providence and draw on the connections they made while in Otterburne.

“I feel this role allows me to practice the second  commandment Jesus gave,” she says. “I feel blessed that it’s such a huge part of my job.”

Brown came to Providence after studying in Nashville, TN and says she quickly felt she was “known and loved” by students, faculty and staff. She points to Matthew 22:39 and Jesus’ instruction to “Love your neighbour as yourself” as a major pursuit in her life—something she says was made clear to her as she attended chapel, worshipped with friends and participated in community life at Providence.

“I hope to continue this act of loving God and each other for the rest of my life, as I believe it is the greatest way we can see His Kingdom come,” she says.

Brown welcomes alumni updates, and they can be sent directly to her via email or through the Alumni tab on the Providence website.
