Providence excited about upcoming Welcome Week
The first few days of a new school year are designed to help new students acclimatize to university life and returning students to readjust. There are numerous orientation events, campus tours for parents and opportunities to complete paperwork and receive dorm keys, library cards and gym passes.
Last year Providence expanded the experience with a Welcome Week that included outdoor games, food trucks and a free concert. Students can expect something similar on the Otterburne campus during Welcome Week 2017.
Between the arrival of new students on Friday, September 1 and the start of classes on Wednesday, September 6, the Providence community will play bubble soccer, sample food vendors, enjoy the comedy stylings of Matt Falk and get to know one another in front of an evening bonfire.
Sunday’s events will be open to alumni and the general public and will include alumni soccer matches and a free concert featuring hip-hop artist Scribe and rock band The Color.
Ahead of the concert, which begins at 6:30 p.m. (rush seating), former students will have the chance to visit the alumni booth and share their memories of Bergen Hall, which was destroyed in a June fire. Bergen keys and room numbers will also be made available for sale as mementos, and the proceeds from all Scribe merchandise sold on campus will be donated to the school’s residence development.
Providence is looking forward to the 2017-18 school year—to the work of new faculty, to the introduction of new programs and to the arrival of a diverse and growing student body. Welcome Week 2017 will get it all underway.
