Providence College is pleased to announce a new commitment between the school’s Business Administration program and the bodies responsible for Certified Management Accounting (CMA) and Chartered Accounting (CA) designations. Both CMA Manitoba and the Chartered Accountants School of Business (CASB) have agreed to accept Providence Business Administration courses as prerequisites for their accreditation programs.
“This builds on the CGA (Certified General Accounting) acceptance we worked out in the summer of 2008,” says Bruce Duggan, Associate Professor of Management at Providence, “Now all three accounting designations in Canada recognize our business degree, making our Business Administration program an even more solid launching pad for careers in business and management.”
Providence Business Administration students who took courses in the last two years now have better access to the accounting designation of their choice. Previously, Providence courses only counted towards a CGA designation, and now their courses count toward any Canadian accounting designation. For the CA and CMA, this means easier entrance into the designation programs, while for the CGA it means transferring courses directly into the program.
“CMA Manitoba is excited to offer an accessible path to Providence College students aspiring to be senior business leaders,” says Ron Stoesz, chief executive officer of CMA Manitoba. “We are confident that these students have the necessary prerequisite coverage to be successful in our Accelerated Program. Furthermore, our designation, grounded in the three pillars of accounting, strategy, and management will be powerful in combination with the Providence College business degree.“
