Lady Freemen defeat Voyageurs
Providence hosted the St. Boniface University Voyageurs Friday night in the first meeting between the two squads this season. While the Voyageurs fought throughout every set, the Lady Freemen were able to take three straight sets in impressive fashion en route to a 3-0 match victory.
Junior captain Vicky Ryshytylo helped her team to a strong start as she unleashed two consecutive aces to help her team to an early lead. The Lady Freemen then continued to feed off the hot start, and freshman Chelsea Needham sent out a monstrous cross-court spike to increase their lead at 13-5. The set’s end then proceeded to mirror it’s beginning, as Providence rode seven consecutive serves from Ryshytylo en route to a 25-8 win.
The second set saw a similar performance from Providence, as they dominated throughout, and took it in convincing fashion 25-10. However, St. Boniface came out determined not to go home without a fight, and kept tied with the Lady Freemen at the seventh point. Providence then started to create better offensive chances, and freshman Amanda Dueck pumped out a couple of key spikes, as the Lady Freemen started to pull away to a five-point lead at 22-17. Freemen freshman Jessica Klassen then put the finishing touches on the game with a spike that bounced off the net to find a whole in the Voyageurs’ defense and end the match’s scoring at 25-20 in her side’s favor.
