CMU Sneaks Through
Freemen give up lead late
The Providence Freemen saw their first match against conference rivals the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers this past weekend. While the Freemen were able to give the Blazers a good match, CMU was able to pull through in the clutch to take the game 95-89.
Providence came out slow to start the game, and the Blazers jumped out to an early first half lead. However, the Freemen shooters started to get hot in the third quarter to bring themselves back into the game. The comeback was capped off by an impressive hustle sequence put together by freshman CJ Sears as he blocked a shot, grabbed the loose ball, then high-tailed it down the court to finish the play off with an emphatic dunk at the other end of the court.
But the Blazers poured it on again in the fourth quarter, and the Freemen offense failed to execute when they needed it most. In the end, the Blazers pulled out to a four-point lead with four minutes left in the game and didn’t allow Providence to climb back into it, finishing the game with a 95-89 win in an exciting back-and-forth match-up.
