Lady Freemen split weekend match-ups with ACC1/15 - The Lady Freemen hosted the Assiniboine Community College Cougars this past weekend to start off the 2011 portion of their MCAC schedule. And while they hoped to bring a more consistent approach to the New Year, they once again struggled to find their form throughout the weekend as they fell in three straight sets (23-25, 8-25, 23-25) on Friday in a poor showing, but came out with a vengeance on Saturday and played more consistently to take the match three sets to two (25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 9-25, 16-14). For the Lady Freemen, Friday’s sets came with several unforced errors. In the first and third sets, the Providence team’s skill was almost enough to make up for their errors as the result showed identical 25-23 losses. In the second set, they fell too far behind to make up ground in the second set allowing ACC to take it 25-23 --resulting in a convincing three-set sweep by the Cougars. The Lady Freemen put on their game faces Saturday and gave their home crowd a much more intensified match. Providence came out strong in the first set and finally earned their first game of the weekend taking it 25-23. ACC then responded with a strong set of their own (25-17). In the third set, the Lady Freemen once again played good team ball which led to a 25-21 win, but then struggled to maintain that impressive play going into the fourth set, losing it 25-9. Providence will see their next action on January 22 and 23 when they travel to Winnipeg for back-to-back games against St. Boniface University. Written by: Kaiten Critchlow ![]() |
