The Providence women’s volleyball team defeated a CMU Blazers team that had not lost a match in the MCAC for the last 2 years. Friday’s win came close on the heels of a heavy defeat at the hands of the Blazers two days earlier as the Blazers defeated Providence in 3 straight sets (25-16; 25-20; 25-11).
CMU went out to a 2 sets to 0 lead and looked to be in line for another 3 set victory when Providence started to play more consistently, gaining confidence as the match went on, and finally winning an instant 5 set classic after saving 5 match points late in the 5th set.
Head Coach Scott Masterson was very happy with his team’s performance.
“We’ve felt that all year we haven’t played to our potential and our only goal for this match was to get to the end and feel like we had put out our best effort."
" We figured that if we did that, we would at least give ourselves a chance to be competitive with a very strong and talented CMU team. The fact that we came out with the win is obviously very rewarding and will hopefully give us the confidence to finish out the year playing our best volleyball.”
Providence’s next regular season games will be this next weekend as they play a home and home series with the Red River Rebels.
Friday night will see Providence visit the Rebels with a game time of 6:30pm followed by the last home game of the season for the Providence women’s volleyball team which will take place Saturday at 2pm.
