Men's NCCAA Regionals
2/25- Providence’s men’s basketball squad were hoping home-court advantage would give them the extra help they needed to rise to the top of the NCCAA North-Central regional bracket during this past weekend’s championship tourney.
However, despite an entertaining and closely contested match, their first round opponents (the North Central University Rams) spoiled the show and won the match 71-61.
The Freemen started the match on a roll, and competed shot-for-shot with the regional powerhouse Rams for the first 20 minutes, heading into the halftime break down by only a point, 28-27.
Providence continued to give a strong defensive performance into the early stages of the second half keeping the game tight. However, the opportunistic Rams (led by the Regional MVP Nate Roeder) were slowly able to distance themselves from the Freemen as the half wore on, and, despite facing a battle to the end, were able to take the game with a 71-61 score.
The Rams then went on to defeat the Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles in the championship finals to claim the regional title.
