Providence Chamber Singers
Eastern Canada Tour: April 19 - May 3
Providence College & Seminary is proud to send off the Providence Chamber Singers on their Eastern Canada Tour: April 19 – May 3. This 27-voice chamber choir will be travelling through Ontario with a short stop in Quebec over the Easter season. Most students at this time are celebrating the end of classes and preparing for their trip home, but not the choir. Even during exam week they are busy rehearsing in preparation for the tour. And if the Spring Concert is any indication of the quality of performance they will give on this tour, then the people of Ontario and Quebec are blessed indeed.
Travelling by bus, they will first stop in Dryden and meet up with Providence Alumna Ann Wightman, who has arranged for the Chamber Singers to perform a concert in Dryden, in a joint effort between Dryden Free Methodist Church and St. Luke’s Anglican Church. Their next stops take them to Thunder Bay, Wawa and Sault Ste Marie. Then a very long drive to Ottawa for the Saturday evening vigil service at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, and Bethel Pentecostal Church on Easter Sunday night. Easter Monday sees the Singers visiting the Canadian seat of Government, where they have received permission to sing on Parliament Hill! Montreal is next including a noon concert at Christ Church Cathedral, and then off they go to Toronto and Niagara Falls. A workshop with Canadian composer Leonard Enns at Conrad Grebel College in Waterloo is followed by a final performance at the Port Rowan MB church on Sunday, May 1 before their long drive back through the USA. And of course what would a drive back to Manitoba through the USA be without a stop at the Mall of America. It’s hard to believe that all of this can be accomplished in just two short weeks!
