Providence Employee Orientation
Students arrive this coming weekend and classes begin on Wednesday, September 7. Providence University College and Seminary staff and faculty spent Monday and Tuesday this week preparing for the coming academic year. On Monday, all employees began the day with worship led by the University College Acting Dean, Cameron McKenzie. Dr Jim Scobbie, member of the Board of Governors, brought a message on the importance of thinking of ourselves as servants of Christ. Gary Schellenberg, Director of Institutional Services introduced new members of the staff and faculty. Roger Gingerich, chair of the Board brought greetings from the Board. President Konkel highlighted sections of his “state of institution” address. Also discussed were important orientation matters such as the emergency management plan, the upcoming Harvest Festival Homecoming, and changes and plans for institutional technology.
The afternoon included a professional development session on computer usage by the IT department and a time of prayer for the coming year led by Dr Stan Hamm, Acting Dean of the Seminary. The day ended with a cake celebrating Providence’s 87th birthday. Dr Konkel was commended for his persistent and fruitful efforts in bringing about university and governmental recognition for Providence undergraduate degrees and for his work at seeing the term University added to the Providence name.
