2011-09-12
The Lady Freemen met their match as they rivaled the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers on Saturday afternoon (September 10, 2011). By midgame, CMU’s veteran striker (Maraleigh Short) was able to find the net and score twice on the Lady Freemen. Despite having more possessions throughout the game, as well as dominating in the offensive end, Providence was unable to close the gap, losing 2-1 to CMU. Head Coach (Dante Calla) strongly believes his team can compete more aggressively than they showed in the first half. “It was encouraging to see the girls come out more confident in the second half and I expect to see more of that”, comments Calla. One highlight play for the Freemen consisted of a beautiful assist by Ruth Shantz (Senior; Plymouth, England) who set up Jen Derksen (Freshman; Winkler, MB) for a goal just past the Blazer’s defensive line. The team sets off to Dunbar Wisconsin this week to play Northland International University on Friday, September 17 & Saturday, September 18th. Next home game action will take place Wednesday, September 21st at 5:30pm against the College Wesmen. ![]() |
