Weekend Volleyball Update
2011-09-26

Heidi Martens (Junior) with good form
It was a tremendous start for the women’s volleyball team who came out on top Friday night at the CMU Pre-season Invitational tournament. The team played powerfully and took the Blazers 3 sets to 1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 25-20) in what was both teams’ first match of the year.

Coach Masterson was incredibly happy with how his squad performed, noting that “everyone was able to see the floor” and was impressed with the freshmen who were able to come in and execute at the College level. Masterson comments, “I thought we played fairly consistently for the start of the year and I am looking forward to the season based on the result.”

It is quite apparent that the women’s team will bring a surplus of excitement and entertainment for viewers from their returning and rookie talent. Providence fans can stay updated on away tournament results via the athletics website.

Noteworthy stats:

Atira Clunis -9 kills, 4 blocks, 4 digs; Victoria Ryshytylo -7 kills, 7 blocks, 2 digs; Heidi Martens -8 kills, 8 blocks

Next game action will commence on Friday, October 7th & 8th in Minneapolis, MN.
