Not only was it the first win of the season for the Providence Freemen Men's Basketball team, but it was a night where history was made. For the first time since Red River College has joined the MCAC, Providence was able to record a victory over the very talented Rebels team with a 77-69 win. The first half was a tight battle with both teams going on runs to give them a slight lead. Early in the second half, Providence was able to secure a lead in the double digits as they executed their offense very well, resulting in easy shots around the basket. They also defended the paint well and secured rebounds to limit second chance opportunities for Red River. As usual, the Rebels made a push to get back in the game in the last few minutes, but the Freemen made some key shots and free throws to hang on for the very exciting victory.

Second year guard Jonathan Thompson led the team with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 steals, while third year guard, Chris Funk had a great game as well recording 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Freemen now enter the break on a strong note and look to continue their momentum as they begin their schedule for the second semester in the early part of January.
