Coming off a 66-52 win at Assiniboine Community College on Tuesday, January 24th, the Providence Women’s basketball team knew they were capable of a much stronger defensive game. On Friday, January 27th, the team got off to a slow start but quickly built a solid lead with visibly improved defense. With control of the game, Providence took the win 57-30. Despite missing several open shots throughout the game, the Lady Freemen rebounded well and limited turnovers.
For Tuesday’s game, top stat getters included Brynn Swan with 20 points, 7 rebounds; Mel Warkentine with 19 points, 6 rebounds; and Breanne Mahara with 9 points, 4 rebounds. On Friday, stat getters were Warkentine with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals; Elena Rempel with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals; and Swan with 8 points, 11 rebounds. Saturday leaders included Rempel with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals; Warkentine with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals; Mahara with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists; and Swan with 11 points, 14 rebounds. Next action for Providence basketball will take place at Red River College this weekend Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th.
