In a three set win over Red River College, the Providence women’s volleyball team defeated the Rebels 25-23, 28-26, and 25-13 on Friday, February 10th. The following day, RRC pushed the Lady Freemen to 5 sets but Providence pulled ahead (3-2; 25-23, 15-25, 25-17, 22-25, and 15-10).

Despite winning both games, Providence has seen better matches. Head Coach Scott Masterson, admits “I thought we played with little intensity and emotion and so I was happy to come out with two wins under these circumstances. We will need to play with more intensity if we hope to beat Red River in two weeks [at the MCAC Championships]”. Providence will once again face Red River in the MCAC Semi-finals hosted at Providence University College on February 24-25th, 2012.

On the men’s side, the volleyball team traveled to Grand Forks, ND to play in a NDSU tournament. Seeing much success, the team charged ahead winning matches against the University of St. Thomas (25-12, 25-9); St. John's University (25-11, 25-25); the University of Minnesota (25-8, 25-9) and NDSU (25-11, 25-19).

Commenting on the tournament, Head Coach Jason Peters thought the team played a good tournament. He adds, “We talked all week about making sure that we did things right on our side of the net regardless of the level of our competition and the guys responded with a solid effort. We had great contributions from all players which was great to see.”

Providence is currently ranked number #5 in the nation and the team is excited to play in an upcoming tournament at the University of Central Florida in early March.
