April 24 - May 12, 2012
Tour of the UK from April 24 - May 12, 2012
The Providence University Chamber Singers are embarking on a tour of the UK from April 24 – May 12, 2012, their ninth UK tour since 1987.
The tour is an exciting blend of travel, performance, ministry, and cultural exchange.
“We have returned to many of the same churches over the years and continue to be warmly received,” remarks conductor Dr. Henry Schellenberg: “the students regard their British tour experience as one of the highlights of their undergraduate degree program.”
Fund-raising projects this year have included banquets and concerts, carol-singing, craft sales, silent auctions, bake sales, working at Schriemer’s, talent shows, a new recording and sponsorship projects. Esther Reimer, student fund-raising chair: comments: "The local community has wonderfully showed their support. I can’t wait to be on tour and see the benefit of all our hard work."
The UK tour happens every three or four years. This year’s tour will feature a choral workshop with Dr. Collin Durrant, principal lecturer in music and music education at the University of Surrey, as well as performances in parish churches, Abbeys, and Cathedrals in Exeter, Liverpool, Ayr (Scotland) and Cambridge. In addition students will have the opportunity to visit London, Oxford, Edinburgh, and Stratford as well as smaller communities throughout the UK.
The 29 students in the choir will be accompanied by staff members Dr.Randall Holm, Dr. Karen Sunabacka, Chris Banman, Willie and Lin Wiebe, and conductor Dr. Henry Schellenberg.
This year’s Spring Concert to be held at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church on Sunday, March 25 at 7:30 PM will feature the Chamber Singers in a variety of repertoire including the World Premier of “Swish, a composition written especially for the Chamber Singers by Dr. Sunabacka.
Admission is free. All are warmly invited. A free-will offering will be taken to offset the expenses of the concert.
