Peter Bjornson, the Minister of Education, Citizenship and Youth, has authorized the certification of all Providence graduates admitted into a Bachelor of Education program. This announcement came in a letter sent to the Dean of Education at each of the universities in Manitoba (Brandon, Winnipeg, U of M, and St. Boniface).

Providence graduates can now be accepted into bachelor of education programs at universities in the province. Prior to this decision, Providence graduates (which were only accepted on a course-by-course basis) wishing to enter a Bachelor of Education program in Manitoba were required to earn a second baccalaureate degree.

“This is the end of a process deliberately undertaken in fall 2001,” says Konkel. “Until now, our students were going outside the province to study to become teachers; now they can study in Manitoba."

This decision was made concurrently with the University of Manitoba senate decision in June authorizing Providence four year degrees as acceptable for admission to graduate studies.
