Blackburn Signs With Providence
The Providence University College Men’s basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Sheldon Esdelle-Blackburn to their 2012/13 roster. Blackburn is a 6’2” forward from Dallas, Texas. Blackburn was discovered through scouting of the northern Minnesota junior college circuit. He is one of three players that were picked up from junior colleges this off season.
Blackburn played his high school ball out of Lakeview Centennial High School in Dallas. After high school Sheldon continued pursuing basketball as he moved 19 hours north to a small town in Minnesota where he joined the Rainy River Community College Voyagers. Blackburn played two seasons and graduated from this two-year school. After his second season Sheldon was awarded the most valuable player.
“After having Sheldon out for a workout, you can tell he has two years of college ball under his belt,” said head coach Jeff Banman “I know that he will be able to produce at this level and I am quite confident that he will be able to adjust to our program.”
Providence looks to improve on its 2011/12 record and once again be contenders in both the MCAC and NCCAA. With Chris Funk graduating and joining the coaching staff of the women’s basketball team, there is an offensive hole left on the team. Averaging over 18 points per game in his final season with the Voyagers, we believe that Blackburn can do more then just fill this hole and he will be a welcome addition to the team.
