Providence Looks to the Bronx for New Keeper
The Providence University College men’s soccer team is happy to announce the addition of Colm Burke and Troy Lydiate to their 2012 roster.
Colm comes very highly recommended by his high school coach at Mount St. Michaels Academy in the Bronx where he led his team to be championship contenders in his Junior and Senior years. His senior year record includes 10 shut-outs in 15 games. He is renowned for his work ethic and competitiveness which contribute to his outstanding play and leadership. With English/Irish roots soccer is in Colm’s blood but he is also an enthusiastic hockey fan and is looking forward to playing and studying in a province where Jets mania is so pervasive.
Troy hails from Regina, SK although he was born in Kingston Jamaica. He has extensive soccer experience as a member of the Saskatchewan provincial team and spent a season with Taft College in California. He is a creative attacking midfielder with excellent ball handling skills. Although Troy is a gifted soccer player he is also a gifted musician and is working on a CD release under Fresh IE’s recording label. His love for God and appreciation of his gifts is evident in his music ministry.
“I am very excited to have students like Colm and Troy joining our team this year” says head coach Martin Ward. “They both come highly recommended as people of character and integrity and it is so important to have players with those attributes who not only contribute on the field but in other areas of team and community life”.
