BC Native Signs With Women's Basketball
The Providence women’s basketball team is pleased to announce the signing of shooting guard Janene Giesbrecht from Cedars Christian School in Prince George BC. Giesbrecht who was the female athlete of the year at Cedars Christian is a multisport versatile player who can produce in many ways on the court. This 5’5” guard is known for her range and consistency beyond the arch. In her best offensive game this past season she scored 24 points with 6 from long range.
Giesbrecht is a talented player but also a top quality individual. Providence takes pride in having athletes who contribute on and off the court in the local community. Janene is a hard worker who will fit in with the scrappy blue collar style of play at Providence. She will be great addition to the roster and the campus community life.
“Janene has the ability to stretch the defense with her long range,” said head coach Joel Coursey, “she is a strong shooter with a head for the game, and she will add depth to are lineup.” “Janene has the opportunity to make a big impact on this team with her game play and her attitude.”
Providence looks to have another strong season despite the departure of star forward Christine Parker who returned to Providence for one season in 2011. Christine, the sister to former head coach Patti Parker, was one of the leaders of the strong Providence team that made it to the MCAC finals in 2011. The Parker sisters leave two big holes that Providence looks to fill with a new coaching staff and recruits like Janene.
