Seminary Pastors Advisory Council
Assisting the Seminary to stay in touch with the needs of churches
On Wednesday, June 26, six pastors (members of the Seminary Pastors Advisory Council) and five faculty members met for lunch and a brief meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to assist the seminary and its faculty to stay in touch with the needs of churches, particularly as the seminary trains leaders, develops resources, and fosters theological reflection.
A specific function of the meeting was for the dean to inform the council of the latest developments at the seminary and to solicit advice for the improvement of existing programs as well as the development of new programs through the strategic planning process. A second function was for the advisory council to highlight the current needs of the church, trends in church life and ministry, and perspectives on seminary training.
This annual meeting began with reports including personnel and position changes in the seminary, the ATS Self-Study, fall applications, and strategic goals. This was followed by a time of input and discussion on topics such as the future of seminary education, mentoring students by local pastors, the role of the seminary, and the need for more students to enter pastoral training.
The seminary is indebted to these pastors who give of their time and expertise to help the seminary understand its role and effectiveness within the church community.
