Providence Picks Up Local Talent
The Providence University College men’s soccer team is happy to announce the addition of Arvid Neufeld and Connor Wiebe to their 2012 roster.
Arvid is originally from Paraguay, which is a heritage that has been a source of some of the most outstanding players at Providence. These players bring the passion and flair of their soccer culture to our soccer fields and they are exciting to watch. Arvid currently plays club soccer for Steinbach’s Hanover Kickers of the MMSL Premier 2 division. Coach Ward comments “ I have watched Arvid play for the Hanover Kickers and as a coach I see his hard work and ability to play different positions and I know he will be an asset to our team. Add to that his skill on the ball and the intelligent runs he makes and he has the potential to be an impact player in our conferences. I know he has the desire to fulfill that potential and I am looking forward to working with him”.
Connor is from another traditional source of Providence soccer players, namely the thriving town of Niverville, a 15 minute drive from Otterburne. He was a standout player on the NCI soccer squad and also played varsity volleyball at NCI. Conner plays as a striker or in midfield, has good foot skills and with his 6’ 4” height and strong vertical he is a great target from set pieces. He is playing for the El Condor club in Winnipeg this summer where he is learning a lot under the coaching of soccer academy director Chico Andrade. Coach Ward says “Niverville is my home town so I’m naturally thrilled when players like Connor choose Providence. Local players bring strong local support which adds to the atmosphere at our games. It is also great that local athletes get to compete at the high quality college level that we have at Providence. It is going to be fun having Connor on the team”.
