Ladies Improve to 13-3
Providence University College hosted its first annual Invitational women’s volleyball tournament this past weekend. The home team managed to stay healthy and fight past a grueling schedule on route to the championship. Friday saw Providence beating Rainy River Community College 25-15, 25-21, 25-10 and then Assiniboine Community College 25-14, 25-22, 25-14 in back to back games. In their third match of the day, Providence handled a strong outing from the U of W College Wesmen in 4 sets 22-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-16. The final match of the round robin was against the Red River Rebels and again it took 4 sets with Providence coming out on top 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15. The 4 and 0 record got Providence a spot in the championship game that would be a rematch with U of W. The Wesmen came out strong and won the first set but that’s all they could get off the home team. Providence rallied to a 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 26-24 victory. "I was very pleased with how we played this past weekend.” Coach Scott Masterson comments of the team’s success. “We've been working a lot on the defensive side of our game and I thought we were quite scrappy throughout the weekend. We were able to play some high quality volleyball and that is also very important for us as we prepare for a run at Nationals in our U.S. league."
