5 In a Row

The Women’s Volleyball team from Providence University College has once again booked their spot in the NCCAA National Championships in Florida next week. For the fifth year in a row, Providence won their North Central Regional Championship advancing them to the Nationals. Seven other regions are represented as well as two wildcard spots to round out the ten team tournament.
The Regional tournament was hosted by Providence for the first time in four years. In the semi-final match on Friday, Providence faced off against Trinity Bible College. Trinity showed some life in the third set but other than that, it was a pretty dominant performance from the home side. Providence took the match 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 25-5. The match was highlighted with great serving from Lauren Toews who went on an 11-0 run in the fourth set.
The championship final saw Providence take on Faith Baptist Bible College from Ankeny, Iowa. Sparked by an energetic crowd, Providence came out firing, not letting Faith in the match at all. Led by captain and setter Christa Penner, Providence took the banner with a 25-12, 25-7, 25-20 win. Christa, from Rosenort, Manitoba, set up 40 kills from the home side. Lauren Toews had 12 of those kills along with 4 aces and Atira Clunis also pitched in with 12 kills.
