After a weekend of celebration and accomplishment, the Providence alumni family has grown yet again, as a new crop of University College and Theological Seminary grads walked the stage for the 2014 Graduation Weekend.
The festivities began on Friday, as students who completed the TESOL program were handed their certificates in a ceremony celebrating culture and the teaching of the English language. Later that day, graduates from the University College and Seminary gathered together for some tea and scones during our annual High Tea Graduation Reception.
On Saturday, the Seminary Graduation Ceremony celebrated 32 graduates, including three from the Doctor of Ministry program, three from the Master of Divinity program, and the rest graduating with a Master of Arts. Those who spoke at the ceremony included Valedictorian of this year’s class, Christeena Nienhuis, as well as Rev. Dr. David Robbins, who was honoured with the Alumnus of the Year Award.
Sunday’s graduation ceremony featured 54 University College graduates who completed their degrees at Providence. Representing her class was Allison Siemens, who spoke as the Valedictorian, reflecting on her time spent at the University College. Also highlighted in the ceremony was Alumna of the Year, Joyce Dyck, as well as Wilma Derksen, the recipient of the Distinguished Christian Leadership Award.
We are so proud of this new group of Providence graduates, and it was a blessing to be able to celebrate them this weekend alongside the countless friends and family who came to show their support. As a community, we will be praying for all of you as you enter a new chapter in life.
