Dr. Sunabacka's composition 'Never to Return' premieres November 27
Dr. Karen Sunabacka, Associate Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Providence University College, recently composed a piece called Never to Return for string orchestra. The piece explores the story of her great-great grandmother Mathilda Clouston (nee Johnson) who was admitted to the Manitoba Asylum (the Selkirk Mental Health Centre) in the 1880’s. Sunabacka's piece, Never to Return, has been commissioned by the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and will premiere on Wednesday, November 27 at 7:30pm at Westminster United Church. Tickets are $28 for adults, $26 for seniors and $8 for students, including GST, at McNally Robinson, the West End Cultural Centre (586 Ellice at Sherbrook), Organic Planet (877 Westminster Ave) or MCO’s Ticket line (204.783.7377).
There will also be a Pre-Concert “Meet the Composer” event at McNally Robinson with conductor James Sommerville and Karen Sunabacka at 7:30pm on Tuesday, November 26.
