The Hon. Jake Epp to Deliver Providence University College Graduation Address
The Honourable Jake Epp will deliver the Providence University College Graduation Address on Sunday, April 19 in the Jubilee Auditorium on the Otterburne, Manitoba campus.
Mr. Epp, who was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, worked as a high school history teacher in Steinbach before embarking on what would become an illustrious political career. He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1972, representing the Provencher riding, and held various Cabinet posts in both the Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney governments.
Following his retirement from politics in 1993 he served as Senior Vice President at TransCanada Pipelines and from 2002 until 2010 was the chair of Health Partners International Canada—an organization that seeks to increase access to medicine and improve health in vulnerable communities.
Additionally, Mr. Epp has been a board member of Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, the Eastern Manitoba Children’s Aid Society and the Beijing-based China-Alberta Petroleum Centre. In 2005 he was named Chancellor of Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto, Ontario.
Perhaps his highest honour was the 2010 appointment to the Order of Canada.
Mr. Epp, who with his wife, Lydia, makes his home in Calgary, Alberta, will be part of a celebratory weekend of graduation activities at Providence, which begins Friday, April 17.
The public is invited to the Providence University College Graduation Ceremony, which will begin at 2:00 p.m., as well as Saturday’s Providence Theological Seminary Graduation Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. in the Jubilee Auditorium.
