Freemen Teams Make Appearance in Top 10
NCCAA Pre-Season Coach’s Poll shows high expectations for Freemen fall sports teams
The Providence Freemen had three of its programs factor in the national coach’s pre-season polls taken earlier this month. The Women’s Soccer (#3 NCCAA Div. II), Women’s Volleyball (#5 NCCAA Div. II), and Men’s Soccer (#7 NCCAA Div. II) teams were all able to crack the Top 10 in their respective sports.
Providence Athletic’s Director Scott Masterson is pleased with the direction of the programs, and feels that last year’s teams are very deserving of the respect they are earning from coaches around the league.
“I believe that this pre-season top 10 vote is important in so far as it recognizes what our programs were able to accomplish last year and what people are expecting from us this year.” Masterson said. “If anything, it should provide our teams with more motivation to not only live up to these rankings, but also to exceed them and have even more successful seasons this year. In the end, this is what we always strive for – to do everything better than we have ever done before. I think we have what it takes this year for all of our teams to do very well and I’m excited to see how they will come together as teams and respond to the challenge.”
Last season’s NCCAA action saw the Men’s Soccer program finish as National Championship runners-up, the Women’s Volleyball team finish fifth at their Championships, and the Women’s Soccer squad finish as runners-up in their Regional Finals.
