Junior Pilots Heading to Nationals
Five Junior Pilots volleyball teams will be representing Providence at what the sport’s governing body styles “the largest celebration of volleyball in Canada.”
The 15U Girls, 15U Boys, 16U Girls, 16U Boys and 17U Girls teams will be making the trip to Calgary for the May 14-19 Volleyball Canada Championships, which have been centralized in a single location for the first time in four years.
“Usually it is spread out across western Canada,” says Kyle Guenther, the Pilots’ Club Program Director.
Overall, four of the nine club teams earned top-five finishes at provincial level, and the 13U Boys completed the season as Manitoba champions.
“It was great to see our teams scattered all over Manitoba competing at Provincials,” says Guenther, who adds that the final placements “speak to the quality of players” enrolled and the “excellent coaching they have received.”
Matches in Calgary will be played at Stampede Park’s BMO Centre and the University of Calgary, and Guenther is excited at the prospect of so many teams representing the Junior Pilots Club on the national stage.
“Our teams have represented our club and our school well all season,” he says.
Coaches Bonnie Loewen, Katelyn Corbin, Mitch Martens, Bryan Tottle and Carl Fast will be accompanying the players to Calgary, and supporters can follow the tournament on Twitter.
