Lady Freemen Dig Their Way Into a Loss
Sloppy play leads to Providence loss against CMU
The Lady Freemen Volleyball squad travelled to Winnipeg on Friday evening to face the CMU Blazers in a re-match of last week’s five-set Lady Freemen victory. However, Providence lacked intensity and focus and fell to a Blazers squad that came out ready to play.
The Lady Freemen came out strong and took a tight first set 28-26. But it was CMU who was able to bounce back and take the next set 25-21 to tie up the match. Providence then seemed to seize up as they stopped communicating and started letting playable balls drop between players which allowed a determined CMU team to take control of the match and win the final sets 25-16, 25-23.
Coach Heidebrecht left the game with questions about her team’s play as a unit, but remained confident that with the skill and characters on the team they will be able to revamp their defense and be more competitive in future matches.
“It was a disappointing loss.” Coach Heidebrecht said. “We did some things that were uncharacteristic of our team and we will have to work hard this week to find a solution for that. We have to refocus and look forward to next weekend’s games.”
