Graduate Certificates

Online & Campus-Based Certificate Programs

Graduate Certificates

Providence Theological Seminary offers five graduate certificate programs of which three programs (certificates in Christian Spirituality, Biblical Studies, and Church Ministries) can be completed entirely online.

Graduate Certificate programs give you a basic overview of a seminary program as well as some more in-depth training and education. Our certificate programs range from 18-30 hours. Coursework successfully completed for the graduate certificates are transferable to other Providence Seminary degree programs.

Methods of Instruction

Please note that the Seminary offers course delivery in four different methods:

  • ONLINE: Courses follow the regular session and must be completed within 4 months from September-December or January-April.

  • MODULE: One week intensive course. Work is typically required prior to class (reading/assignments) as well as after the class (final projects/assignments). Modules are offered at both campuses, however, Counselling Practicums 1 and 2 are only offered at the Otterburne campus.

  • DIRECTED STUDY: A directed study is a coherent, well-defined, substantive reading and research project supervised by a faculty member, usually resulting in a major written document. It is not credit for work experience. Independent study is a different way of learning. In independent study, a student is guided by a teacher but usually does not take classes with other students every day. The student works independently.

  • HYBRID: A mixture of Online and Module study.

  • DISTANCE EDUCATION: Consists of a mixture of course delivery methods: Online, Module, Directed Study, and Hybrid (online & modular). Please pay attention as some courses may require students to take courses at our Otterburne campus.
