(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
The Graduate Certificate in TESOL equips those who wish to meet the large and growing need in North America and around the world for teachers of English to speakers of other languages. A strong academic foundation in theory and practice produces effective classroom instructors and curriculum and materials developers.
The TESOL Certificate consists of 30 credit hrs. of which 15 credit hrs. can be completed within during the Summer TESOL Intensive or during the fall and winter semesters. The remaining courses can be taken during the fall or winter semsters, or if you have already completed comparable courses at another institution, these courses may be transferred in as credit. The Certificate may be obtained at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Note: Those who have already completed an undergraduate degree may pursue a Master of Arts in Global Studies or an M.A. in Educational Studies with a TESOL major, including the Certificate requirements and an additional 30 hours of seminary credit. Non-native speakers of English must demonstrate an adequate proficiency in English in order to enter the program (550 TOEFL P.P.T./ 213 C.B.T equivalent; the requirements for the intensive summer program are 600 TOEFL P.B.T./ 250 C.B.T. equivalent).
