![]() Is this program for me?Have you always been fascinated with what makes people tick? Are you the one people naturally turn to when they need to talk? Do you believe Christ brings healing but are unsure how exactly that works? This may be the training you are looking for! Social intelligence, compassion and mercy, and belief in the healing power of God are gifts used by successful professional Christian counsellors. What can I do when I'm doneGraduates of the M.A. Counselling program practice as a mental health professional or counselling therapist. Previous graduates have found meaningful employment in ministry within their denomination, service in para-church counselling agencies, community mental health agencies both faith-based and secular, and crisis intervention programs. What kind of program is this? This degree will prepare you to care for people who feel lost in the spiritual, psychological, and relational problems of life. This program is distinct in its integration of a theologically-informed wordview and modern psychological knowledge. Psychological science has increased our understanding of mental health problems. We use solid psychological science to inform therapy. We also share the early church’s conviction that effective healing work stems from the love and character of the healer. Therefore we seek to call out and cultivate good character in counsellors-in-training. The courses in the program include a series of counselling practica, where you learn to responsibly manage a caseload of therapy clients; classroom courses to develop the necessary knowledge for competent practice; and biblical and theological studies to ground practice in a sound theological worldview. The program is delivered in a flexible format of semestral, modular and online courses. The professors who you will learn from are first and foremost men and women who have a passion for the Lord. They have a calling and a passion to call out and cultivate natural giftedness and to equip counseling therapists who will make a difference in their world. We love doing therapy too, so all professors are also active in counselling practice. The Providence Counselling Program is also offered in Calgary at Ambrose Seminary. Up to one year of study can be completed by distance education on either campus. The Seminary also offers a three-year program that allows students to go deeper into specialized areas of counselling.
