Through our ministry partnership with Ambrose Seminary in Calgary, we offer our students the opportunity to enroll in the Providence Counselling program without relocating from Alberta.

The Bible and Theology courses are taken at Ambrose Seminary. The counselling courses are presented in modular form by the counselling faculty of Providence at Ambrose Seminary premises in Calgary. Students also have the option to complete some courses on-line. Dr. Rodolfo Nolasco is the resident Providence professor in Calgary.

The M.A. in Counselling degree can be completed in four semesters by a full-time student. Because of the modular format, part-time study options are also available.

Program Objectives

  • To familiarize the student with the major secular and Christian approaches to counselling.
  • To ensure an adequate Biblical and Theological framework for developing a counselling ministry which is consistent with Biblical revelation.
  • To acquire a thorough knowledge of the theory and skills of counselling.
  • To train students to become compassionate counsellors with training in psychotherapeutic skills.

Nature of the Programs

Students apply to Providence and enroll in the Master of Arts Counselling. They take their Bible and Theology courses through Ambrose Seminary. Through a series of one week modules, students complete most of their counselling courses with Providence Theological Seminary faculty at Ambrose Seminary in Calgary.

A major component of the program is a sequence of four practica where students are involved in hypothetical and actual counselling situations. These are offered during the regular semester.

Degrees can be completed in four semesters and two summers as a full-time student. Part-time study options are also available.

Payment must be made at Providence Theological Seminary on or before the first day of class. Payment can be made securely on-line or by calling the Business Office at 1-800-668-7768, ext. 226.

Important for Summer School:
Registrations will be accepted through the first day of the course. Since, however, class capacity may be limited and time is needed to obtain course outlines and to do prepatory work, it is recommended that registration be made as soon as possible and prior to the beginning of Spring/Summer school. Please be advised that course cancellation will be determined two weeks prior to the course start date based upon full payment registrations. In the event of insufficient enrollment, a class may be cancelled at the discretion of the Seminary Dean. In this situation, deposits will be refunded.
