Is the program for me?

If you picture yourself in a teaching ministry as a teacher or an administrator, either in North America or somewhere else, this degree program is for you.  The M.A. in Educational Studies gives you a solid biblical and philosophical foundation of education, program planning and/or administration that can be used in academic, professional or cross-cultural settings.

What can I do when I graduate with this program?

You will find employment in church and parachurch related ministries as a teacher, children/youth worker, camp director, or administrator.

What kind of program is this?

Its major distinctive is to develop godly, critical and creative thinkers who can have an impact on their and future generations. While it prepares people from a general perspective, you can also specialize in children, youth or adult ministry. Majors include Educational Ministries, Student Development, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Training Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TTESOL).

You will get practical experience by taking supervised ministry experience in the area of your interest.

Your major professors with be Dr. Stan Hamm, chair of the department and Dr. Chuck Nichols, Professor Emeritus.

The goal of the Educational Ministries program is to help students become mature leaders who can help others mature in Christ. Vocational training is offered to men and women who feel called to leadership roles in the church, college teaching, missions, or other para-church agencies.

M.A. Education Studies

Nature of the Program

In addition to a general educational track, students can take an emphasis in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or Teaching TESOL. Courses are designed to assist the student in becoming a Godly, critical, creative thinker, who has developed a biblical, practical philosophy of ministry. In addition to classroom courses, the program requires supervised ministry experience.

Vocational Possibilities

The educational ministries major prepares people to minister in various support vocations of the church, for leadership and ministry in para-church organizations, and for many teaching ministries.

This Major focuses on on developing a Christian philosophy of education and utilizes up-to-date theories and methodologies in the field of TESOL to apply that philosophy in a variety of academic, professional, or cross-cultural settings.

Vocational Possibilities

Graduates from the TESOL major could use this degree in a wide variety of English language education positions, teaching children or adults in Canada or abroad.

Nature of the Program

This program is designed to be flexible, with the core TESOL courses being offered semestrally as well as in a month-long institute in the summer. Summer and distance education options are also available.

The M.A. in Educational Studies gives students the opportunity to acquire a solid foundation in biblical and theological studies, as well as training in Christian ministry and specialized courses in a TTESOL major. This Major focuses on on developing a Christian philosophy of education and utilizes up-to-date theories and methodologies in the field of TTESOL to apply that philosophy in a variety of academic, professional, or cross-cultural settings.

Vocational Possibilities

Graduates with a TTESOL major will be sought after to train teachers of English in institutions of higher education, missions organizations, and humanitarian aid organizations all over the world. Many will also have the opportunity to develop and implement TESOL programs in institutions which do not currently offer this type of program but wish to do so.

Nature of the Program

Flexibility is key in this program. Modules for TTESOL courses are offered three times during the year: in January, March and November. Summer and distance education options are also available.
