Program Summary

REQUIREMENTS: 60 Credit Hours

The Master of Arts in Educational Studies, TTESOL Major trains people to teach those desiring to teach English to speakers of other languages.The program offers a core of biblical and theological studies together with courses in linguistics and language pedagogy which together offer a unique combination of theological and professional formation. It presumes a level of competence in linguistic theory gained at an undergraduate level and concentrates on pedagogical concerns.

The degree requirement is 60 credit hours. TTESOL is a major in both the Educational Studies program and the Global Studies Program.  The difference lies in the type of additional courses taken.  In Educational Studies, one will take additional courses in Christian Ministries and/or Counselling; in Global Studies, one will take additional courses in Christian mission.

Graduates will come away from the program with the ability to develop curricula and train teachers in applied linguistics, second language acquisition and methodology. You will gain skills in supervising pre-service language teachers as well as skills in evaluating language learners, teachers and programs.

All instructors have university degrees and are certified in teaching English as an Additional Language. Most have taught in other countries and have learned additional languages themselves.

Note: Providence University College also trains English language teachers. At times TESOL students will be present in the classroom for observation or practice teaching. They will always be under the supervision of experienced teacher educators to ensure that English learners receive the highest quality of instruction.
